Today, many of us still agree that colour affects our mood so it is important that our living space creates an environment where we can relax and feel well, at home! Even the smallest of colour detail can brighten up our spirits. From the nice rug on the floor that provides a cheerful and comforting focal point, to the colour of our walls and cushions, the tones we choose are important.

RED is said to be the colour of passion and romance; BLUE meaning beauty and wisdom, YELLOW represents warmth and happiness, while GREEN the continuance of life and adventure.

One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to update a home is by changing the soft furnishings. Swap those dated old rugs, with vibrant modern rugs and make an instant difference, add a few cushions or maybe a throw, and a room can look completely different. If you don’t fancy trotting off to Ikea for your living room rug, then buy rugs online. Start with www.nicerug.co.uk – A new rug could mean a new lease of life!

Forbes’ latest rich list reveals that 30% of last year’s billionaires are feeling the pinch and also experiencing the humiliation of being relegated to mere millionaires. With this in mind, it seems that even the mega wealthy are having to weather the recession.

While they won’t be swapping their precious Prada for Primark (well, not just yet!), they may have to keep a watchful eye on their withering millions. For many it will be a case of refurbishing that mansion rather than buying a new one (or ten) this year and as for that luxury yacht, well it will just have to do for another year.

So while their chins drop to the floor perhaps they should consider a few home improvements or a revamp of their interior décor. Ok, so we can’t really imagine the likes of Sir Richard Branson shopping for a new doormat or Roman Abramovich scouring the high street for a nice rug. That said, it could be really easy to buy rugs and doormats by simply browsing www.nicerug.co.uk or www.doormatsdelivered.com

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich spent £43m on one. Tate Britain has one hanging in its halls. Now you can buy an original Francis Bacon for as little as a thousandth of the price of his most impressive works. This is no ordinary natural rug however; this is an abstract piece from Bacon’s 1929 exhibition.

Bacon’s early days as a rug maker are not widely know, and his productivity that insignificant that an example held at the Victoria and Albert Museum was thought to be one of only three in existence. His rug collection has now grown, however, after an Iranian carpet dealer found two while cleaning out one of her storerooms. Textile specialist Ian Bennett at Netherhampton Salerooms, near Salisbury, confirmed their authenticity.

Mr Bennett said that the Iranian dealer was unaware of the wool rugs’ significance, having bought them ten years ago from an elderly lady who had been using them in her hallway. “She thought they were impractical. She kept on tripping over them. She didn’t know what they were.”

Mr Bennett said that it was almost impossible to put a value on the rugs because none had been on the market in recent years. “I hope that each one will fetch a five-figure sum, but I haven’t the foggiest idea. There is no precedent. You never know. Roman Abramovich might want one.”
