A top chartered physiotherapist has asked employers to identify why accidents in the workplace happen and how they can be prevented in the future, the Health and Safety Executive reported.

Pauline Cole, who supports the HSE’s Shattered Lives campaign, said floor surfaces should be suitable for the work being done on them and they should be maintained and kept in a good condition. Obvious warning signs should also be visible when there is a change in flooring, like slopes and steps, while employees who notice workplace hazards should report them as soon as possible.

Some flooring surfaces are easier to maintain that others however. Studded Rubber floor tiles for example are durable and easy to clean, making them ideal for large floor areas.

Rubber tiles provide an anti-static surface that is perfect for home offices or rooms with computers as well as in large high-traffic areas. Careful maintenance of rubber flooring is essential because it can easily be damaged by exposure to strong cleaners.

Did you know you that you can make a rubber tile floor look freshly waxed by adding 250ml of fabric softener to 1/2 bucket of lukewarm water?

The fastest method to clean a rubber tile floor is to utilise an all-purpose cleaning solution. Read the product label for precautionary measures, and always test it in a corner before using it on the entire floor.

It’s easy to remove heel marks or other indentations from a rubber tile by dipping fine-grade (000) steel wool in liquid floor wax. Rub the region gently, and wipe away with a damp cloth. Solvent-based products can soften and damage a rubber tile floor so please be careful. Also, keep scouring pads, strong detergents, and hot water away from rubber tiles.

Flooding the floor with water will cause big problems; excess water can loosen the adhesives that hold down the flooring.
