Its that time of year again and millions of dads across the country will awake to cards that poke fun at their waistline or a pair of socks suited to the golf course. June 20th is Father’s Day so why not this year get him something he can use, and buy him a new garage floor. Garages tend to become unloved over time and sometimes all that’s needed to bring them back to life is a new floor. Make their friends green with envy by creating a new room in the house perfect for DIY and other general manly stuff.

Instead of the usual dusty concrete interlocking vinyl floor tiles make an inexpensive floor surface. They come in a wide range of colours and surface patterns so its easy to find one that suits your particular home. They’re usually also easy to fit so that you don’t always even need a professional floor contractor – they can be loose laid or adhered to the ground with a suitable flooring adhesive.

You’ve put it off for far too long and now the cobwebs have built up and your garage is usually somewhere you try and avoid – but wait! You can reclaim your personal man space for doing man stuff (like reading Nuts and playing with power tools) by simply smartening up your garage floor. Installing a tiled vinyl flooring can be inexpensive, quick and provide great results – plus you don’t even need to be a qualified flooring fitter to lay them. Most flooring solutions are available as interlocking tiles that simple clip together to cover any size or shape room.

UK Flooring Online are a web-based retailer of affordable garage floor tiles. Their Flexatile product is a 5mm thick pvc interlocking tile – ideal for use in garages. Installing a vinyl garage floor can brighten the room, make it a more comfortable place to be, but also impress your mates!

The 5mm Flexatile is supplied in two colours, grey and black – making it easy to match with existing interior styles. This new vinyl floor tile is perfect for commercial applications that don’t receive extremely heavy traffic. Vinyl is hard wearing and keeps its appearance for a very long time, making it a good choice for people who want a permanent floor solution.

C’mon England, C’mon England…… The days are ticking away to this years Football World Cup in South Africa and the whole nation expect the England team to win. In reality they probably wont but as with all World Cups and Euro tournaments it is a great excuse to get your friends round, light the BBQ and have a few too many drinks in the sunshine.

So, you have loaded the fridge with ale, bought the local shop out of all their burgers and sausages and lit the inferno in your back garden all that remains is to decorate your place with all the St.George paraphernalia you can get you hand on. And what better place to start than the front door. With this great England Doormat from Doormats Delivered you can shout out your support for the England team and let your friends know exactly where the party is. Made with a soft felt top and non-slip backing (50 x 75cm) it is also perfect for decorating tables and sideboards. In fact it will protect them from the odd spillage and ring mark.

But, if any thing is true to form then you will probably use the doormat to kneel on and pray as England step up to another penalty shoot out…..C’mon England.

The interior design opportunities offered by the smallest rooms are often ignored. But tiny hallways, dark boxrooms and narrow loos are now the focus for designers who like to specialise in the richest, most elaborate wallpapers, tiles and flooring. The most cramped rooms, filled with deep colour and surrealist pattern, are unleashing the Mad Hatter in us all.

“I’m taking over the world one downstairs loo at a time,” said Louise Wakefield of Beware the Moon, the new design house she created in partnership with her dad. She contends that the feature wall has had its day: “Now I want to see my designs in completely papered tiny rooms, nice and busy, like wallpaper should be.”

Flooring plays a crucial role in small-space decorating. Long, narrow, striped or patterned rubber floor tiles can lengthen a hallway, and wide stripes make small rooms look more spacious. Something on the lines of the modern classic studded rubber floor tiles (500mm x 500mm, £8.99; 085451 24 24 10, ukflooringonline.com). The truly adventurous looking to add sparkle to a dingy room should check out the new hammered-metal briquettes from De Ferranti in glowing gold (10cm x 30cm, £499 per sq metre; 020 7384 4424, deferranti.com). Or, perhaps, a silver floor in engineered oak from the Salsa collection by Tarkett (Silver Star, £60 per sq metre; 01622 854151, tarkett-floors.com).

Going green will also feature very highly this year as a trend to follow so expect to see lots of cork and bamboo flooring in the shops over the coming months as people become more eco conscious.

Hardwood flooring is a popular choice for many people these days after the early 2000’s saw an increase in the number of people using laminate flooring as a replacement for the short twisted pile carpet in pinks, blues, and greens.

In 2010 we will see a lot of wood flooring but instead of it being laminate it will be real hardwood flooring.

Going green will also feature very highly this year as a trend to follow so expect to see lots of cork and bamboo flooring in the shops over the coming months as people become more eco conscious. People who do have wood flooring but want to be more friendly to the environment may want to opt for the thinner hardwood flooring saving around 20 per cent of the cost in the process.

Very dark stained or almost white wood flooring are the most popular options in the current market.

Hand-scraped flooring is becoming the natural choice for home-owners who are looking for wood flooring with added texture. Even Bamboo flooring is becoming available with a hand-scraped texture.

Because wooden flooring has taken off so well in recent months there is now a lot more choice and variety available to suit everyone’s taste. With the success of iPhone applications, there are now even applications to help you decide which flooring would best suit your needs.

Rubber slate tiles are also proving very popular in homes as they are easy to keep clean, cheaper than the wood alternatives and warmer underfoot.

In a time when we’re all thinking about sustainability you might not necessarily think about rubber flooring as a good call when thinking of flooring options. But let us tell you, in terms of doing your effort for the green movement there’s fewer flooring solutions that will give you more green points.

Don’t believe us, take the Concordia International School Shanghai (CISS) as an example of leading environmental building and rubber flooring.

The school recently completed a new six story education complex. The amazing design of the 129,000 sq.-ft. facility was the design efforts of architecture firm Perkins Eastman who as part of the design build wanted sustainability as a top priority.

The school wanted a building that was not only as a source of energy efficiency but also an environmental education for the students. To achieve this the architects incorporated geothermal technology for heating and cooling across the entire campus, and placed a model of the underground system in the entrance of the school.

As well as a whole variety of other facilities such as green roof top gardens they opted for other eco-friendly materials include daylighting, natural ventilation, and naturally-occurring materials such as bamboo and rubber flooring.

Both bamboo and rubber flooring are great sources of natural flooring. While bamboo can be quite costly, a cheaper alternative for rooms such as bathrooms and bedrooms, or for workplace environments such as offices, factories, gyms or warehouses is rubber flooring. With the increase in demand the colour options available have also increased. It’s no longer just a bland grey option that’s available to you but sexy colours and studded varieties.

In our present economical downturn, keeping costs down is a on the top of most people’s list. But how do you spruce up your home without spending too much? Flooring ladies and gentlemen, that’s how. Flooring is one of the most important factors in a room. It can influence the temperature of the room, lift the decor and provide that illusive ambience. If you’re suffering from dank, dated carpet or harsh concrete flooring that makes you weep every time you look at it, we’ve got some suggestions for you that won’t be too expensive or complicated.

Large rugs
When you get out of bed and want something soft and warm to step onto, then carpets are the best thing ever. However, thick pile carpet can be really costly and either requires the employment of a carpet fitter or very strong knees and elbows to lay it yourself. An excellent alternative is large rugs. The beauty of a nice rug is that it can be laid anywhere without any fuss. So if you’re bedroom carpet has seen better days then invest in a plush, thick rug. Next time it’s cold outside, you’ll know that it’s warm in your room… or living room.

Wooden elegance
If you’re looking for the natural elegance, you can’t beat a bit of wood. As a modern day alternative, how about some bamboo flooring though? It has a similar look and feel but the fact that it’s bamboo provides that extra touch of contemporary. Alternatively, a cheaper option that achieves a similar look is laminate flooring. It’s extremely durable and if you happen to spill anything on it, a quick wipe will get it clean.

Sturdy slate rubber flooring
For your bathroom, there’s something quite regal about stone slate tiling. It provides the feeling associated with posh hotels. However, these really are very expensive. A modern alternative is a looky likey rubber flooring alternative. For example, the flooring that is provided by ukflooringonline.com . At first glances you’d be hard pushed to work out whether this was real slate or not. While you won’t have the cold feeling when you put your feet on slate effect rubber flooring, for all intents and purposes it will look like the real deal. Fortunately for us, vinyl flooring has grown in availability and now there’s a mind boggling choice of stone effects to choose from. Best of all It is also affordable and has the edge over genuine granite in
that it is highly insulative.
