Here’s a feel-good company who really make a difference to the environment and raise awareness for a great cause.
Down East Doormats produced by the Maine Float-Rope Company not only save whales and marine life, provide financial assistance to lobstermen, but protect the environment too.
Float-rope was traditionally used by lobstermen to tether lobster traps together, but it is also know to entangle whales leading to injury or death. Consequently, lobstermen have been encourage to replace their float-rope with the antonymously named sink-rope.
The Float-Rope Company provides a financial incentive for lobstermen to recycle their no longer required float-rope at a fair price to ensure that the redundant material isn’t diverted in to landfill sites.
So along with all the great benefits there’s a happy ending for the float-rope too; they get woven into lovely, yet virtually indestructible, brightly coloured waterproof and reversible doormats that work well as bootscrapers. The cost is the only downside with this decidedly cheery campaign to reuse refuse as the smaller mats are 50 dollars a pop.
Alternatively you could make a difference to the environment with this wallet-friendlier eco-doormat which is constructed from 100% recycled tyres and plastic bottles for under 15 quid.
