With Britain slumping deeper and deeper into recession, and house prices deflating, it looks like our time of moving from home to home is coming to an end.

Instead, homeowners are turning to home improvements, to make their current home as comfortable as possible.

In 2008 there was a 24% rise in home improvement loans according to Sainsbury’s finance. Even professionals such as Grand design’s Kevin McLoud said that he feels now is the best time to engage in home improvements, as professional services are cheaper.

Yet your improvements don’t have to be on a “grand” scale for you to enjoy the benefits. Simple additions such as glassware, artwork or even a good quality rug can help to turn your house into a home, or should you be looking to sell in this stagnant market, these touches will make your home more appealing to buyers, and could help get you that sale.

What’s more when you do sell, you can pack them up and take them with you.
