Local council make blunder with insignia rug

A large rug with the county insignia woven deep into its pile has been purchased by a council set to be devolved through local government reform.

The County Council of Bedfordshire disappears next year making the rug superfluous. The modern rug was ordered before the call was made on unitary status and formed part of a costly renovation of county hall in Bedford a spokesperson revealed.

Frank Branston, mayor of Bedford, said: “It will make an excellent museum exhibit under the heading of Follies.”

The county council say the large rug was ordered before Bedford Borough Council was assigned to take over their duties and they were told they would be abolished.
