‘Monster Skin Rug’ is the latest creation of artist/designer Joshua Ben Longo and is quite possibly the coolest floor covering we’ve ever seen. Finished with a combination of brushed woven cashmere and wool, and constructed using polymer clay, this monstrous creation would become the talking point of any room.
The website (http://www.longoland.com) describes itself as a multidisciplinary funhouse lead by Joshua; who after graduating in Industrial Design from the Pratt Institute decided the world of traditional product design was too restrictive for the fantastical visions he had.
Longoland is a menagerie of the bizarre. Wing back chairs are covered in scaly, woolen monster pelt. Half dog, half armadillo critters sneer from behind rows of snaggly teeth. And then there are those monster rugs. It’s Dr. Seuss with a laudanum chaser. Their work could be best explained as fabric manipulation. There is a lot of attention to detail on these stuffed creatures that bristle with faux fur.
If you were looking for something distinctly less frightening to adorn your bedroom floor then nice rug offer tamer jute and sisal rugs. Although not quite as unique, at least no monsters were harmed!
